A court battle between the builder and engineer of the much-delayed Transmission Gully motorway project north of Wellington is unlikely to get underway for years.
The project has blown through previous deadlines and is hundreds of millions of dollars more expensive than initially budgeted for.
The 27-kilometre motorway was due to open last month but Covid-19 disruption and supply chain issues means there is currently no completion date.
Builders CPB Contractors are seeking $75 million from engineers AECOM New Zealand alleging design changes and errors left it out of pocket.
Court documents state that the large number of lengthy civil and criminal trials already on the docket and disruption from Covid-19 mean any trial cannot start until July 2023.
However, counsel availability could see it pushed out to 2024.
