Age Concern is urging people to check-in with their elderly friends, neighbours and family members and include them in their holiday celebrations.
Chief executive Stephanie Clare said while it was a busy time of the year, people should not forget about their older relatives.
She said loneliness could become a big issue for the elderly at this time of year, but small actions could help.
"Just checking in and being reminded that those small actions, that could be a small physical action like a smile or it could be helping out someone or offering a spare chair at a table or inviting someone to a barbecue," she said.
Ms Clare said this time of year could also be financially stressful for older people.
