The road was closed yesterday morning, and plans to reopen it today have been delayed until tomorrow.

The road has been partially reopened since December with daytime access only, after being damaged in last November's earthquake.

The closure is between Peketa and Goose Bay.

The Transport Agency is urging drivers travelling to Kaikōura to use Route 70 through Waiau.

It was now aiming to reopen the road tomorrow.
