On 11 March just before 5pm, he was travelling north near Rangiriri when he was followed by a large convoy of motorcycles and was beaten when he stopped and got out of the vehicle.

Waikato police have released footage of the moments before a motorist was viciously assaulted on the expressway a week ago.

Police still want any imagery that captures the assault.

They are asking anyone in the area at the time with dashcam or cellphone footage to get in touch, including any commercial drivers.

"We are grateful to all those people who have provided electronic footage to us," Detective Inspector Graham Pitkethley said.

"We are still specifically seeking any imagery that captures the assault itself."

Any relevant footage can be uploaded here.
