Another man has been arrested and charged with the murder of a man in Whakatāne last month.

Claude Te Rangiatahua Takao, 47, was found dead down a bank on 1 June and a homicide investigation was launched.

A 34-year-old is due to appear in Rotorua District Court today, charged with murder, aggravated robbery and two counts of kidnapping.

Four other people are already before the courts in relation to Takao's death, including a 14 year old.

Police said they wanted to assure people that anyone involved with the "murder, kidnapping, or robbery" of Takao will be held to account.

"This is an active homicide investigation and we continue to appeal for information."
