The government has announced a new site for Shirley Boys' High School and Avonside Girls' High School in Christchurch.
The secondary schools were damaged in the February 2011 earthquake.
They will be relocated to a shared site at QE2 Park about 5kms north-east of their current sites.
The decision is part of the government's $1 billion rebuild of Christchurch schools following the earthquake.
The schools are being moved because they land they are on is judged unsuitable for rebuilding.
Shirley Boys High School principal John Laurenson said the new location is ideal and is better than its former site.
"A lot of the relocation of population, especially our old population, is within 4.5-5kms within that site so for us it's placing us ideally where the new population growth in Christchurch is occuring - out towards the northeast."
Mr Laurenson said it is wonderful to have certainty about the school's future.
