Police will continue a search for a missing swimmer at Maruia Falls in Nelson this weekend.
In a statement, Nelson Bays Area Commander Inspector Matt Scoles said police staff and Land Search and Rescue volunteers today continued the search for a 26-year-old Christchurch man who failed to resurface after jumping into the water at Maruia Falls on Friday 24 June.
Scoles said today's search was scuppered by poor weather conditions with search and rescue reporting low visibility.
Swimmers, inflatable rescue boats and a submersible camera were utilised in an extensive search of nearby river banks and a two kilometre stretch of the river downstream.
Unfortunately, the missing swimmer was not located.
"We remain in close contact with the family at this difficult time and will continue to do so to provide them with any necessary support.
"We will continue to do all that we can to locate the man and return him to his family," Scoles said.
Search efforts are expected to resume tomorrow.
