French Polynesia's president Edouard Fritch has given his full backing to the new French president Emmanuel Macron, saying there is a shared vision of how Tahiti can help Mr Macron's new strategy for Europe.
Mr Fritch is in Paris and met one of Mr Macron's associates Jean-Paul Delevoye at the headquarters of the En Marche movement.
Mr Delevoye said President Macron believed that France's presence on all five continents gave it a chance to again find a great place among nations.
Mr Fritch said they also discussed the significance of the Elysee Accord which is long-term co-operation agreement signed this year by Mr Macron's predecessor.
In the lead-up to the French presidential election, Mr Macron vowed to maintain indexed salaries for French public servants on overseas postings.
