Restrictions on the sale of one brand of French bottled water in Wallis and Futuna have been lifted.

Last week, the territory's environment agency found that Cristaline water failed to comply with health standards and banned its sale and consumption.

The importer expressed surprised at how the testing was done after a problem with some bacteria was detected in Futuna.

According to the public broadcaster, the manufacturer attributes unusual smell of the water to the way the consignments are stored, pointing out it should be kept away from the sun and heat.

After removing the bottles causing the health alert, the authorities have allowed the sale of Cristaline water to resume.

Cristaline is the top-selling bottled water in France.
