A second woman has been arrested over the attack on a 92-year-old victim in Kawakawa last week.
The elderly widow, who lives alone, was attacked in her rural home on 9 January, after two women came to her door asking for fuel.
Police said a 40-year-old female has today been charged with aggravated burglary and wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm and will be appearing in the Kaikohe District Court this afternoon.
It follows the arrest of a 24-year-old woman on similar charges yesterday.
Detective Senior Sergeant Rhys Johnston said nobody else was being sought over the incident.
"We know the community was appalled to hear the details of this incident and we are pleased to be able to hold those allegedly responsible to account.
"We want to reassure the community that police take matters of this nature extremely seriously and we will investigate thoroughly," Detective Senior Sergeant Johnston said.
