The ban in the town of Dumbea prohibits any movement outside one's home from 10pm until 5am.

It was declared just over a week ago and is now set to expire at the end of Sunday when the general lockdown in New Caledonia is now expected to be eased.

The curfew was imposed in addition to the decree which requires all residents to have an attestation to justify their movement.

It was declared also after two minors died when they crashed a car they had stolen during the lockdown.

New Caledonia has recorded 18 Covid-19 cases, but none for more than a week.
