The Taranaki playmaker Marty McKenzie has been ruled out for the rest of the season with a hip injury.
The first-five-eighth was hurt during the Amber and Blacks' 41-0 thrashing of Waikato in New Plymouth on Friday.
McKenzie willl undergo surgery on Wednesday the 23rd of September to repair a labral tear in his right hip.
The expected recovery time from the operation is four months, ruling him out for the remainder of the season.
McKenzie joins Wellington's Brad Shields on the injured list for the rest of the competition after the Lions' captain fractured his jaw during his side's one point loss to Otago on Thursday.
