One of the largest telecommunication companies in Fiji has partnered with Huawei to rollout a new fibre internet network in the country.
On Tuesday, Telecom Fiji announced Huawei would deploy a new 10GPON Passive Optic Network in Fiji, claimed to be the first of its kind in the Pacific Islands.
The network delivers some of the fastest internet speeds in the world.
Telecom Fiji general manager Joseph Naua said the rollout would take Fiji to greater heights in telecommunications.
"Telecom is proud to work in partnership with Huawei in the development of this 10GPON network and we are extremely proud to know that Huawei will continue to invest and innovate in the ultra broadband domain," Mr Naua said.
Huawei first entered the Fijian market in 2002 and has strategic partnerships with Telecom Fiji and Digicel, according to a 2015 press release.
Also in 2015, Fiji's government jointly formed a strategic plan "to build Fiji into an ICT hub for the South Pacific".
In 2016, Huawei assisted Telecom Fiji with the rollout of a 4G+ mobile network.
