Four helicopters and two firefighting crews are battling a blaze at Lake Ohia, in the Far North.
Around 2 hectares of dense scrub had been destroyed since the fire broke out this afternoon.
The blaze was about 4 kilometres away from an existing vegetation fire on the Karikari Peninsula, which has been burning since last month, Fire and Emergency district manager Wipari Henwood said.
No homes were threatened, but strong north-westerly winds were fanning the flames.
