A damaged section of State Highway 23 between Hamilton and Raglan was officially opened today, but traffic will not be able to use it for a few weeks.
Harsh weather caused 30 metres of the road to crack and slump, with damage made significantly worse by Cyclone Gabrielle.
The road dropped about 2.5 metres.
The highway was closed in early February, but a temporary sealed road on private land around the damage was quickly opened.
While the official reopening of the damage section took place today, traffic will not be returning to the original part of the highway until early June.
