About 2500 Timaru households are on a boil water notice following heavy rain in the region.

Due to high levels of silt in the water, a notice is in place for the Downlands and Te Moana rural water schemes.
Residents are being asked to boil their water for a least one minute before drinking, cooking and brushing teeth.
Upgrade works for these two water systems are planned.
