There have been eight further deaths of people with Covid-19 and 6984 new community cases reported today by the Ministry of Health.
The seven-day rolling average of new community cases is 6422 today, sharply up from 4817 last week.
In a statement, the ministry said there were 417 people in hospital, up from 411 yesterday, including seven in ICU.
The seven-day rolling average of hospitalisations is 377, up from 353 last week. The average age of people in hospital was now 63.
The eight new deaths being reported today included one person in their 50s; two in their 70s; three in their 80s; and two aged over 90. Three were women and five were men.
One was from Waikato, three were from the Wellington region, one was from Canterbury; one was from South Canterbury and two were from Southern.
The number of people who have died with Covid-19 in New Zealand is now 1529.
The ministry said 211 new cases had recently travelled overseas.
There were 19 deaths and 7423 community cases of Covid-19 reported yesterday.
There have now been 1,338,446 cases of Covid-19 in New Zealand.
