Former Manus asylum seeker returns and is arrested

A former asylum seeker who was deported from Papua New Guinea has been arrested again after returning to the country.

The ABC reported that Bangladeshi Helal Uddin, returned illegally by boat to Manus Island because he was desperate to see his wife and son.

The family had been separated for nine months.

Mr Uddin was arrested in the northern coastal town of Wewak when he went there to get a PNG identity card.
