Wait a minute, Mr Postman

16:53 pm on 1 November 2013

New Zealand Post has announced plans to cut between 1500 and 2000 jobs, the majority of which will be postal delivery staff – another blow to the state-owned organisation after urban deliveries for standard mail were recently cut from six days to three days a week from mid-2015. But chairperson Sir Michael Cullen, who announced the proposal at a news conference in Wellington this afternoon, said the cuts would take place over three years, and an internal organisation would be set up to look after the wellbeing and future job prospects of those affected. New Zealand Post is in consultatiom with the unions involved with the company’s 10,500 staff.
