Police said a group of people smashed a window to gain entry to the store just before 3am on Tuesday.

They were forced to flee after the store's fog cannon activated.

Two stolen vehicles seen leaving the scene were found abandoned.

Police were continuing to advise the public to ensure vehicles are secure when parked, including using a steering lock if they are not fitted with a factory immobiliser.

It was the latest in a spate of thefts at the jewellery retailer's stores including several burglaries at the Takapuna outlet.
