Police name man who died in Taupō motel

The man whose death is being investigated after he died at a motel in Taupō last Sunday has been named.

He was 30-year-old Ryan Whare Woodford from Taupō.

The acting area manager, investigations, of Taupō CIB, Detective Sergeant Andy Livingstone said an autopsy was completed today in Auckland.

Police are continuing to investigate Woodford's death in an inquiry being referred to as Operation Dell.

The homicide inquiry was launched just after 6.30am on Sunday after Woodford died at the Adelphi Motel on the corner of Kaimanawa Street and Heuheu Street.

Livingstone praised the efforts of other motel residents who came to Woodford's aid and also alerted emergency services.

He said police are also receiving community support as detectives try and piece together what happened.
