Fire and Emergency says the blaze on Beaconsfield Street, in Portobello, is under control, and some evacuees have received the all-clear to return.

However six crews remain at the scene dampening down hotspots and vegetation in extremely windy conditions.

It means other evacuees, gathered at Coronation Hall in Portobello Road, may have to remain out of their homes for some time.

Fire and Emergency was first called to the fire about 4.30pm.

It has caused smoke damage to some neighbouring properties.
