Two people have died after getting into trouble in the water at Piha in West Auckland early on Satruday evening.
Emergency crews were called to the beach just after 6pm, police said in a statement.
The two people were unresponsive when brought to shore by lifeguards, and unable to be revived.
The deaths will be referred to the coroner.
There were two drownings late yesterday and one this morning in Auckland, meaning five people have now drowned in just over 24 hours in the city region.
