The two - both in their late 20s - have also been fined $US90,000.

They were arrested at Tahiti airport last week when on arrival from the United States, 60 grams of methamphetamine was found on them.

One of the men had concealed six grams of heroin inside his body, which was the first such heroin smuggling uncovered in Tahiti.

Last year a man in his 50s was caught arriving in Tahiti with heroin but he was an addict who was subsequently jailed.
