A 30-year-old man has been arrested following an armed robbery of a house in Auckland's North Shore overnight followed by an 80-minute car chase on the motorway.
A police spokesperson said police were called to the address on Calliope Road in Stanley Point just after 2.30am today.
The alleged offender had left by the time police arrived, but staff spoke with two residents, one of whom had received minor injuries during the robbery.
At 7am today, the offender returned to the address and stole a vehicle.
The driver ignored police signals to pull over, and travelled at dangerous speeds on the Northern Motorway, running red lights and driving on the wrong side of the road at times for the next 80 minutes.
He was stopped after the car hit spikes on Newton Road and crashed into a pole on Park Road at around 8.15am.
Police said no one was injured during the chase.
The driver was taken into custody and police said charges were being considered.
