An Auckland childcare centre was the subject of an anonymous complaint just weeks before a four-year-old boy died in an accident on its playground equipment in November last year.

The complaint, made in September 2016, triggered a Ministry of Education inquiry into Angels Childcare in Takapuna.

However, the ministry cleared the centre of breaching regulations.

The ministry did not provide details of the complaint.

It said it also cleared the centre of any breaches when it was notified in September 2015 that a child was burned by hot tea.

It received another complaint about the service in 2013, but did not investigate because the complainant did not give further details.

Worksafe said its investigation of last year's fatal accident is continuing.
