The Independent Police Conduct Authority is being notified after a person died after a police chase in Oamaru this morning.

Police tried to stop the vehicle after reports it was driving dangerously at Waimate.
The vehicle crashed shortly after police abandoned the chase.
One of the occupants died and the other was taken to hospital.
Inspector Marty Gray said it was a tragic outcome and urged people to stop for the police.
