Organisers of Auckland's Rainbow Parade say they are hopeful "third time will be the charm" as the event goes ahead today.

The parade on Ponsonby Road - which was originally scheduled for February - has been postponed twice because of changes to Covid-19 alert levels.

Event manager Shaughan Woodcock said that the organisers are thrilled and are looking forward to having a parade which is safe and enjoyable.

Woodcock is expecting around 16,000 people to turn out to watch the parade.

The event is due to start at 6pm.
