Solomon Islands prime minister Manasseh Sogavare starts his official visit to Australia today.
During the trip Mr Sogavare will take part in a handover ceremony for a new Guardian Class patrol boat which Australia is gifting to Solomon Islands.
The vessel is to replace a recently decommissioned Pacific Patrol Boat.
This year Australia has been rolling out new patrol boats across the region as part of its commitment to Pacific maritime security.
Mr Sogavare is also expected to meet with Australia's Minister for Mines and Petroleum, Bill Johnston.
Solomon Islands Minister for Police and National Security, Anthony Veke, is accompanying the prime minister.
