A 21-year-old man is the second person to be charged with the murder of Palmerston North man Damon O'Rourke.
He has also been charged with unlawful possession of a firearm.
O'Rourke was found with gunshot injuries at a property on Coromandel Court on 20 January. He died in hospital shortly after.
A 19-year-old man, also charged with the murder of O'Rourke, appeared in the Whangārei District Court on Wednesday.
He has been granted name suppression and will appear in Palmerston North High Court next month.
Detective Inspector Craig Sheridan acknowledged O'Rourke's family.
"This has been an incredibly difficult time for them and I know they will be relieved."
