Police have named the man who died after he was dropped off at Kaitāia Hospital with serious injuries on Saturday night.

He was 22-year-old Arthur James Randy Rhodes Honey Boy Kara Tahere, of Auckland.

A 29-year-old woman charged with his murder is due back in the High Court at Whangārei on 4 October.

She was granted interim name suppression and remanded in custody at her first court appearance in Kaitāia on Monday.

Detective Inspector Rhys Johnson said on Monday the accused and victim were known to each other, and police were not looking for anyone else.

Kaitāia residents could expect to see an increased police presence while the enquiry continued.

"While at the centre of this investigation is a tragic incident, we are pleased to have been able to bring a quick resolution to the victim's grieving whānau," Johnson said.
