Two people have died after a car crash in Massey, West Auckland.
The crash on Don Buck Road was reported to police at 4.16am.
In an initial statement just after 5am, police said one person was found dead at the scene while another was taken to hospital in serious condition.
An update at 7.30am stated the second person died.
Police are investigating the circumstances of the crash.
Don Buck Road between Gallony Ave and Redhills Road will remain closed while a scene examination is underway.
Diversions are in place and motorists have been asked to avoid the area.
The provisional holiday road toll now stands at nine.
