An Air New Zealand flight to Tahiti was forced to turn back to Auckland Airport on Monday night after being struck by lightning.
Flight NZ902 was bound for the capital Papeete when it was struck around twenty minutes after departure.
Air New Zealand chief operating officer Alex Marren said all passengers aboard the flight have been rebooked and will travel to Papeete on Tuesday.
He said maintenance teams were required to inspect the aircraft after a strike before it could return to service.
