The office of the Northern Marianas governor, Ralph Torres, has dismissed talks of impeachment being promoted by one of his biggest critics.
Mr Torres' chief of staff, Angel Demapan, has described a suggestion from Representative Tina Sablan that the House should initiate impeachment proceedings against the governor as "political posturing".
The call came after Mr Torres' office and car were searched by the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
Ms Demapan said Ms Sablan's comments were nothing more than self-serving talk, purely politically driven, and premised on self-aggrandising motives.
Earlier this week, Ms Sablan said the legislature had the authority to conduct oversight and investigations on other branches of the government, including the Executive Branch, as the Constitution set up each branch to provide checks and balances on each other.
In February 2013, the House impeached then-governor Benigno Fitial on charges of corruption, felony, and neglect of duty.
Mr Fitial resigned days after he was impeached.
