Military and police personnel in Papua New Guinea will start an operation tomorrow to try and end tribal fighting in Hela Province.
A local MP, the finance minister James Marape, will be in Tari to launch the special operations on Christmas Eve.
There has been a surge of deadly tribal clashes in Hela province this year, which has spread into the provincial capital, Tari, forcing it to be locked down at times.
Mr Marape told the Post Courier the operation is the beginning of a wider effort to establish a permanent police and court structure for the province to try and instil law and order.
He also wished the people of the province a Merry Christmas.
