Covid-19 update: 25 further deaths, 4790 community cases, 648 in hospital

Another 25 deaths of people with Covid-19 have been reported in New Zealand today, as well as 4790 new community cases, with the rolling average of cases continuing to fall.

The seven-day rolling average of community case numbers today is 5608, compared to 7405 this time last week.

In today's statement, the Ministry of Health said there were 648 people in hospital, up from 605 yesterday, with 19 in ICU.

The ministry said there had now been a total of 1638 deaths attributable to Covid-19.

The 25 new deaths of people with the coronavirus include four people in their 60s, six in their 70s, nine in their 80s and six aged over 90. Fifteen were women and nine were men.

Two were from Northland, five were from Auckland region, four were from Waikato, three were from Bay of Plenty, one was from Lakes, one was from Taranaki, one was from MidCentral, two were from Whanganui, one was from Wellington region, two were from Nelson Marlborough, two were from South Canterbury, one was from Southern.

There were 5296 new cases of Covid-19 reported yesterday, as well as a further 19 deaths with the virus.

There have now been a total of 1,639,058 case of Covid-19 in New Zealand.
