Corrupt officer sentenced

11:31 am on 19 December 2013

A police officer convicted of sexual assault, corruption and bribery has been sentenced to home detention by the High Court in Christchurch.

Ex-Senior Constable Gordon Meyer last month admitted a charge of corruption and bribery and another of indecent assault, in relation to two women he sought sexual favours from in 2011.

In sentencing, Justice Panckhurst said Meyer's breach of trust had been gross and his behaviour had been sleazy. He has been ordered to serve nine months home detention and must pay each of his victims $3000 in reparation.

He told Meyer he was struck by the content of the victim impact statements which he read to the court.
