A man has died after crashing his car into a tree during a police pursuit in Kawerau.

Police said the man was spotted speeding along River Road at 3.30am this morning.
He failed to stop and then turned his lights off.
Police said they pursued him, but he lost control of his car and crashed.
The Independent Police Conduct Authority has been notified.
