The Australian government is providing an initial 760,000 US dollars in urgent humanitarian support to Tuvalu in the wake of Tropical Cyclone Pam.
The cyclone caused severe damage to houses, health centres and other critical infrastructure, and communities are experiencing electricity and water shortages.
The foreign minister Julie Bishop says it has water and medical supplies ready and has experts assessing needs.
She says Australia will also support longer-term recovery and reconstruction efforts, in consultation with the Tuvalu government.
