Papua New Guinea's Attorney General and Justice Minister has promised to use his powers to re-open investigations into one of the country's worst maritime disasters, the sinking of MV Rabaul Queen.

Davis Steven told the Post Courier newspaper that he fully understands the concern in the public domain at the moment.
He said the 2012 sinking of the Rabaul Queen was an unprecedented tragedy.
The vessel sank off Finschhafen, Morobe and 172 people went missing.
Ship owner Peter Sharp, captain Anthony Tsiau were cleared of the manslaughter charges last year.
In August, Public Prosecutor Pondros Kaluwin announced that further charges would not be pursued.
However, the Attorney-General said the matter is now under scrutiny.
