The Ministry of Health is reporting the number of Covid-19 cases and deaths of people with the virus are falling.
In the last week, 22,770 cases have been reported - down from 32,000 the week before.
Of the new cases, 30 percent or 6961 are reinfections.
The seven day rolling average of cases has fallen by more than 1000 to 3246 - while 56 people have died with the virus, down from 78 last week.
All of those who died in the last week were aged over 50, and half of the deaths were men and half were women, the majority of deaths (19) were from the Auckland region.
The number of hospitalisations remains steady - with 436 people in hospital in the virus, including eight in ICU.
Epidemiologist Michael Baker told Morning Report that New Zealand was coming out of the third Omicron wave and infections should drop back to lower levels over the next few weeks.
"But as we know of this virus, it looks like the pattern continuing to the future is of continuing evolution of new subvariants, maybe even new variants, that are good at evading our immunity and causing future waves - so that appears to be a pattern we could plan for for the foreseeable future," he said.
