Papua New Guinea's police commissioner is calling for vigilante witch-hunts for those suspected of practising sorcery to end.
Gari Baki said anyone who attacks a person suspected of practising sorcery will be arrested and charged.
His comments followed the torture and killing of a woman in Port Moresby this week in retalliation for the death of a man believed to have died from black magic.
Mr Baki said belief in sorcery should be a thing of the past.
He said modern medicine could proove any death was not related to sorcery.
