A New Zealander, who had not been heard from since the first earthquake in Nepal, has emailed a friend to say he is safe.
Peter Curreen, 63, was attempting to reach the Mount Everest base camp when the first earthquake struck.
Friend Paul Murray said he had a brief email from Mr Curreen saying he was safe and was currently in Kathmandu.
"Elation. People have been asking me day and night have I heard anything, and yes, there's a lot of general concern in Karamea about his wellbeing, and he's a much loved character in our town and we are very pleased to hear he is safe and well."
He said Mr Corine was expected to travel to Australia next week and then make his way home.
