A police constable in Samoa, Lefiu Aiga Fono, has appeared in court on charges of murder and manslaughter following the death of man in a stone throwing incident at Faleasi'u village early this year.
Another man, who is a relative of the accused, has also been charged.
The policeman has not yet entered a plea.
In a separate matter, a 29-year-old mother is facing charges of manslaughter, assault, being armed with a dangerous object and failing to provide the necessities of life in relation to the death of her one-year-old child earlier this month.
Police allege the woman struck the child with a broom handle.
The court has ordered the woman to stay in another village and not to approach her three other children, including her two week old baby, for their protection.
The woman's mother has court approval to care for the children.
