Four more people have been arrested in relation to a firearms incident in Invercargill last weekend.

One person was hospitalised on Saturday evening after the incident on Earn Street, which saw the Armed Offenders Squad called out as a precaution.

A 23-year-old man was arrested on Tuesday, police said, followed by four more after search warrants were carried out across the city.

Aged between 17 and 28, the four have been charged with aggravated robbery and wounding with intent to cause injury. They will appear in Invercargill District Court on 9 and 13 January.

"Police would like to reassure the public that these matters are taken seriously," Acting Detective Sergeant Jordan Edwards said.

The first man arrested faced charges of wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, unlawfully possessing a firearm and unlawful possession of ammunition.

Police had previously asked the public for help, particularly looking to hear from anyone who had seen a white 2006 Toyota Camry in the area on Saturday evening.
