19:17 pm on 16 March 2016

Police in South Auckland are investigating an allegation that a former employee of the Automobile Association (AA) has been selling fake drivers licences for $500.

The AA has confirmed to RNZ News that the booking officer used to work for AA Meadowlands, near Bontany, but is no longer employed by the organisation.

The allegation has caught the attention of the Associate Transport Minister, Craig Foss.

He said the government took allegations of fraud very seriously, the Transport Agency was assisting the police investigation and taking immediate steps to protect the integrity of the driver licensing system.
