The Northern Marianas has recorded its first Covid-19 case through community transmission in more than two months when a patient going to surgery tested positive.

The Covid-19 Task Force said the infected person was identified during a pre-operation screening at the Commonwealth Health Center.

The victim is now at a designated isolation area for close monitoring.

The Health Center has started contact tracing.

The latest case is the CNMI's 50th coronavirus case and its first community transmission since June 3.

Of the 50 confirmed cases, 25 cases have been identified through port of entry screening, 15 from known contacts, and now 10 through community screening.
