A survey of Emergency Departments across New Zealand and Australia has found that almost 20 percent of people were there because of harmful drinking.
The survey captured a moment in time, 2am on Saturday the 14th of December, at 100 hospitals.
Dr Scott Boyes, an emergency physician at Hawkes Bay hospital says many of the injuries involve violence and assaults, as well accidents.
