An anti-war work is Aotearoa's favourite piece of classical music for 2024, as voted for by RNZ Concert listeners.

Welsh composer Karl Jenkins's, 'The Armed Man: A Mass for Peace' topped the list of 30 most popular classical works for the year.

'The Armed Man' was commissioned in 2000 by the Royal Armouries Museum.

It draws on texts from a range of religions and words from writers including Rudyard Kipling.

The three thousandth live performance of 'The Armed Man' took place in March, under the direction of Karl Jenkins, and marked his 80th birthday.

Beetheven's piano concerto number five, 'The Emperor Concerto' was second in the poll and Vaughan Williams's 'The Lark Ascending' came in third.
