The printing shop of French Polynesia's La Depeche newspaper has been placed in receivership.
This follows prolonged financial difficulties for the publication which is the only local daily newspaper for sale.
Workers had been fearing job losses and launched a strike last month after being repeatedly paid late.
The strikers had also been decrying poor working conditions and a failure to adhere to the terms of a settlement that ended the last strike last year.
The company RLD has now six months to find a solution to avoid liquidation.
Four years ago, the territory's oldest newspaper Nouvelles de Tahiti ceased publication after 57 years.
